Steven Cooper - Master Craftsman

Steven Cooper began his career in jewellery making while still at school in 1987 in his native Orkney, where his passion for jewellery began when he joined a silver-craft evening class. He went away to study engineering on the Scottish mainland, but very quickly realised that this was not what hereally wanted to do or where he wanted to be.Returning to Orkney, Steven started working with a local jeweller, spending the next 10 years honing his skills as a master craftsman and developing his own unique flair for design and technique.

In 1998 Steven set up the company Aurora. The company’s philosophy was simple: to maintain the highest standards of original design and take pride in a product painstakingly hand crafted in the traditional way. Working closely with Aurora’s designers, Steven makes all of the master patterns using traditional methods, creating unique pieces of jewellery, each bringing a freshness of design together with outstanding quality of craftsmanship.

Steven’s originality, imagination and talent is reflected in Aurora’s unique jewellery pieces. He has always enjoyed making things, and especially appreciates the reactions they receive. Steven draws his inspiration from his stunning surroundings in Orkney and the people he meets from all over the world when they visit the Aurora studio.

Whether it’s a one-of-a-kind commissioned piece or a frequently requested favourite, respect for craftsmanship is evident in all of Aurora’s striking designs.
